Country music singer Morgan Wallen will perform at Neyland Stadium on Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 22.
Each show is expected to bring about 80,000 additional people to campus. To prepare, campus operations will be substantially adjusted on these days, especially on Friday.
Classes will be held as usual unless professors instruct otherwise, but students and staff will not have access to the Zeanah Engineering Complex, Alumni Memorial Building and Silverstein-Luper Building after 12:30 p.m. on Friday. These academic buildings near Neyland Stadium will be closed for security reasons to prepare for Wallen’s concert.
All other campus buildings will be accessible only by VolCard after 1 p.m. on Friday and the Student Union will close at 6 p.m.
There will also be parking and bus route adjustments for commuters and staff members.
Anyone with a commuter or staff parking permit who arrive on campus after 2 p.m. on Friday will not be able to access their assigned lots. They must park in the park-and-ride location at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum and take a shuttle bus to campus.
T-buses will convert to special event service after 2 p.m., but the park-and-ride shuttles will continue until 5:30 p.m. Starting at 12:00 p.m., the park-and-ride shuttle loading and unloading will be at the west side of the Student Union, instead of Gate 21 Plaza at Neyland Stadium.
These changes will not impact non-commuter lots and permit holders.
During the time of Wallen’s concert, there will also be a volleyball game and an evening performance at the Clarence Brown Theatre. These events will make driving on campus challenging and increase congestion in the middle of campus.
The university advises students and staff leaving after 2 p.m. to avoid Lake Loudon Boulevard and Neyland Drive as they leave campus to help limit congestion in these high-traffic areas.
