With sweater weather upon us and festive lights all around Knoxville, it’s prime time for fresh date night ideas. Whether it’s a first date or celebrating an anniversary, here are a few picks for an unforgettable date.
Ice skating in Market Square
‘Tis the season for ice skating, and Market Square is currently decked out with holiday décor everywhere. The location makes it easy to pair ice skating with lunch or dinner at Tupelo Honey or Nama.
The “Holidays on Ice” rink opens on Nov. 28 and runs through Jan. 4. Tickets cost $12 which includes admission, skate rental and unlimited time on the ice.
Bella
If you’re looking for a dining experience, Bella in Maryville is worth the drive. The layout and look of the restaurant is more formal, but the dress and atmosphere are casual and friendly. For a special treat, order the table-side fettuccine pasta, prepared in a grana padano cheese wheel.
Maple Hall Bowling
For those with a competitive spirit, check out Maple Hall Bowling. They offer a laid back and urban space with 11 boutique-style lanes. There are delicious food and drink options offered while you bowl. All ages are welcome Sunday through Thursday at any time, and Friday through Saturday before 9 p.m. The cost to rent a lane varies depending on the day with pricing listed on its website, and lanes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you happen to have a wait, stop by the photo booth in the back.
A Dopo “Trust Fall for Two”
A Dopo is a wood-fired pizzeria in downtown Knoxville, specializing in sourdough Neapolitan inspired pizzas. For guests 21 and older, they offer a special deal called “Trust Fall for Two” which includes an appetizer, two pizzas, a dessert and a bottle of wine entirely chosen by the server. This deal is perfect for the indecisive couple or those feeling adventurous.
Live music show
Knoxville is home to dozens of live music shows. From big-name concerts to open mic nights, listening to live music with someone special is a great way to bond over music tastes and a shared experience.
Christmas trees and holiday lights
All around Knoxville, evergreen trees are starting to sparkle. The iconic Market Square tree will be lit as part of the Regal Celebration of Lights on Nov. 28, with festivities starting at 5:15 p.m. There will be numerous live performances and food trucks to kick off the holiday season.
If you’re searching for even more holiday magic, look no further than the Fantasy of Trees at Knoxville Convention Center on Nov. 26 through Nov. 30. Admire the beautiful decorations and stop by shops for holiday-themed accessories. Donations and proceeds from the event go to support East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.
There are also holiday light shows throughout December, such as Lakeshore Holiday Lights and Festival of Lights at the Cove at Concord Park.
A show at Tennessee Theatre
Nearly everyone is familiar with the illuminated Tennessee sign on Gay Street, but how many have ever stepped inside? This 19th-century historic theatre hosts concerts, musicals, holiday performances and more. Appealing to a variety of audiences and fine arts admirers, the theatre offers a step up from the typical dinner and a movie experience.
Whether it’s lacing up your skates or listening to a live show, Knoxville offers plenty of ways to celebrate connection this season and encourage exploration off the comfort zone of campus.
