No. 6 Tennessee soccer begins its four-game road trip with one of its most difficult tasks of the year – a showdown against the No. 4 UCLA Bruins.
The Lady Vols (2-0) are off to a dream start in 2025. After shocking the college soccer world with a 2-0 win over No. 1 North Carolina, they added a 9-0 victory over Eastern Kentucky to boost confidence even more. UCLA (1-0) has already had a solid win this season, downing Georgia 1-0 in its season opener.
Here’s how to watch Wednesday’s game, followed by some key storylines leading up to the game.
How to watch Tennessee soccer at UCLA
Wednesday’s matchup, beginning at 10 p.m. EST, 7 p.m. local time, will be streamed live on B1G+. Fans can access the broadcast link through the Tennessee Athletics app or on the UT Sports website.
A look at the Bruins
The Bruins entered the season ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, but after a win over Georgia, they’ve jumped up to No. 4. UCLA is still trying to bounce back from last season’s disappointment in the NCAA Tournament, as they lost as a No. 2 seed to No. 7-seeded Virginia Tech.
UCLA is led by senior defender Jennie Immethun, who won the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week last week.
Previous meetings
The Lady Vols have only played the Bruins three times, sitting at a 0-2-1 record since 2011.
The most recent of the three came last year in Knoxville, where neither team could score in a 0-0 draw. Though Tennessee was a major underdog, its stifling defense did what it needed to keep the Bruins off the board.
Tennessee makes a splash in awards
The Lady Vols didn’t just turn heads; they picked up awards, too.
Redshirt junior Shae O’Rourke took home two major awards, winning both the Women’s College Player of the Week and the SEC Offensive Player of the Week. In her first two games back from an ACL tear last season, O’Rourke tallied two goals against No. 1 North Carolina and another in limited action against Eastern Kentucky.
Sophomore goalkeeper Cayden Norris also took home some hardware after being tabbed as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. She recorded five saves against North Carolina, posting the third shutout of her career and anchoring Tennessee’s back line in the win over the Tar Heels.
