Buying books for the new semester might seem burdensome, but the two main textbook providers to the University of Tennessee believe the process is getting easier everyday.
Managers at Rocky Top Books and the Book and Supply Stores on campus say this book-buying season seems to be going better than past semesters.
Mike Roos, director of the University Center Book and Supply Store, said the resurgence of book reservations have lessened the crowds at the store.
I think it’s running very smoothly, Roos said. I think we’ve been very fortunate.
According to Roos, problems have been generally held to a minimum, with the slight exception of a few late book request from professors.
Rachel Price, a sophomore in chemistry, experienced no problems as she shopped in the University Center Book and Supply Store Wednesday. Price said she wished the organization of the store was easier, but had no real complaints.
As for the process of book buying altogether, which includes the possibility of long lines and mounting costs, Price said, You get used to it.
Greg Scribner, the store manager at Rocky Top, said business has been steadily busy for the last couple of days.
Scribner said renovations to the former Campus Bookstore have just been finished. After a week closed, the store reopened Monday as the new Rocky Top East. The original store on Cumberland Avenue will remain open as Rocky Top West.
Both stores are now operating on a clerk-aid basis, rather than self-service, Scribner said.
I think students appreciate having the help of people who have previously taken the same classes they are, Scribner said.
Allison Fairchild, a junior in broadcasting, said she experienced little problems shopping at Rocky Top, except for one book that was not in stock.
Most books were easily gotten through Rocky Top and there were no lines when I went, Fairchild said.
Personnel at both the Book and Supply Store and Rocky Top Books anticipated today would be their busiest day, but predict activity will remain brisk until the add/drop deadline has passed.
