Love can be charitable in more ways than one for students who participate in a date auction Sunday night to benefit the March of Dimes annual fundraiser, Walk America.
Walk America supports pioneering research and innovative programs that work to save babies born prematurely or with birth defects. Since 1970, the walk-a-thon has raised more than $1 billion.
Bidding for the auction, sponsored by Gamma Sigma Sigma, will begin at 8 p.m. at Mike and Willy’s.
The purpose of Gamma Sigma Sigma is to assemble university students in the spirit of humanity through sisterhood and service.
The March of Dimes is our national philanthropy, and we were looking for a fun way to raise money for Walk America this year, said Avis Wampler, the March of Dimes chair for the service sorority.
Men and women will be auctioned off Sunday, with each date having a minimum bid of $10.
Every date will feature a package offering items like movie tickets or dinner at local eateries.
This will be a great time to take a study break and maybe get a date for the week, Wampler said.
The doors of Mike and Willy’s will open at 7:30 p.m. for the event.
We are hoping this event will draw a huge crowd and that everyone gets what they come for, Wampler said.
