Lady Vols tennis didn’t miss a beat after a 12-day break.
Tennessee opened conference play with a 6-1 win over Arkansas on Friday. The No. 20 Lady Vols (9-2, 1-0 SEC) earn their fourth straight win over the Razorbacks (7-4, 0-1).
Lauren Anzalotta and Catherine Aulia started doubles play strong for the Lady Vols with a 6-1 win. The pair improved to 7-1 on the season with the victory.
No. 40 Sofia Cabezas and Elza Tomase didn’t fare as well on Court 1, dropping their match 6-1. A 6-4 win from Esther Adeshina and Alana Wolfberg clinched the doubles point for the Lady Vols. The pair won their sixth doubles match together in seven attempts, and the team doubles point win was Tennessee’s ninth of the season.
Adeshina would carry momentum from doubles into her singles match, defeating Kacie Harvey 6-1, 6-1. The senior improves her singles record to 5-1 on the season.
No. 94 Aulia put the Lady Vols up 3-0 after winning her singles match 6-1, 6-3. The win over Morgan Cross was her seventh of the season.
No. 88 Carolina Gomez Alonso won the only point for Arkansas, defeating No. 23 Cabezas in just two sets. Cabezas falls to 7-2 on the season with the loss.
Anzalotta clinched the overall match on Court 6, defeating Anet Koskel 6-2, 6-2. She improves to 8-1 in singles play with the win.
After the overall match was decided, Wolfberg and Tomase won to add to Tennessee’s lead. Wolfberg won her match over Lenka Stara, and Tomase defeated Kelly Keller. Tomase’s win was the 65th singles win of her career.
The Lady Vols will continue their road trip to open conference play on Sunday when they meet Missouri. Tennessee is 8-2 all-time against the Tigers. The Lady Vols won last season’s meeting, 4-0, and have beaten Missouri on six straight occasions.
