It was a quick trip for Tennessee men’s tennis in the SEC Championships.
The Vols fell 4-0 to the No. 25-ranked Ole Miss Rebels on Wednesday in College Station, Texas. It is a disappointing end to a disappointing season in which they won just one SEC match in 15 tries. Tennessee ends the season on a six-match losing streak.
Alejandro Moreno and Piotr Siekanowicz starred despite the thrashing. They won by a break to take down the Rebel pairing of Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn in the doubles match.
Ole Miss, however, took the other two doubles matches to clinch the point.
Jose Garcia and Shion Itsusaki fell in a tiebreak to Stefano D’Agostino and Pietro Pampanin, 7-6. It came down to mistakes by the Vols’ pairing, who made more than Ole Miss, but not by much. Freshman Woodson McMillin was paired with Ethan Muza. The duo dropped a break, as that is all it took for Ole Miss’ Benjamin Martin and Matthieu Chambonniere to survive, 6-4.
In singles, Garcia got the nod on Court 1. D’Agostino, ranked No. 81 in the country, took advantage of two breaks from Garcia. This led to a victory in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Itsusaki, looking to cap off a phenomenal freshman season, struggled against Noah Schlagenauf of Ole Miss. He dominated this matchup, winning 6-1, 6-4.
Loan Lestir won similarly to D’Agostino, winning by a break in each set. He drew Siekanowicz, who gave Lestir trouble early. Ultimately, the two breaks sealed Ole Miss’ victory and advancement to the second round of the SEC Championships. Lestir won 6-3, 6-4.
Moreno faced Chambonniere as he looked to close out a strong 2025-26 season. Unfortunately, the match went unfinished, going into the third set, 6-2, 2-6.
Muza faced Vlado Jankanj in a back-and-forth battle. When the match was called, Muza was winning 6-4, 4-4.
Finally, Boruch Skierkier had his singles match against Pampanin. This was the slowest of the day. Pampanin got a break to take the first set, before trailing by a break in the second. The match went unfinished with Pampanin leading 7-5, 3-4.
Tennessee will lose Moreno, Muza and Skierkier to graduation, while it begins to search for a solution for the 2026-27 season.
