On Feb. 3, the Student Government Association Senate held its 11th session of the academic year. During the meeting, several appointments were made as well as the reading of a proclamation that sought to honor the life and legacy of the late Natalie L. Haslam.
Appointments
The Undergraduate Student Senate welcomed Julia Dieter into the role of executive alumni coordinator. Through her work in this position, Dieter aims to cultivate and strengthen the connection between the senate alumni network and current senators.
In addition to Dieter’s appointment, the undergraduate senate carried out five additional vacancy appointments.
First Readings: Honoring Natalie L. Haslam
On Jan. 16, renowned Knoxville philanthropist and University of Tennessee alumna Natalie L. Haslam died. Throughout her life, Haslam generously poured back into her alma mater. Her contributions particularly fell upon the college of music that bears Haslam’s name.
To express gratitude towards Haslam, Sen. Jake Dozier sponsored Proclamation 26-1 that commends her “unending contributions” to the university and celebrates the legacy she leaves behind. The proclamation was co-sponsored by Head Lobbyist Cade Simmons and Parliamentarian Gabriella Maitra.
“So much of the circulation that happens in the college of music and why it’s such a lively place is because of Natalie L. Haslam,” said Dozier. “I believed it was imperative that since her passing, everyone on this campus and across the country should know why and how she’s become such an important figure.”
