Student Activities Week came to a close Friday night with an outdoor concert featuring Slow Children Playing, Jodie Manross with Laith Keilany and Bloom.
The concert was held at the Aquatic Center and was co-organized by the Campus Entertainment Board and the Welcome Week Board.
According to Jenni Boyce, the interim advisor for student activities, the original lineup included Battle of the Band participant HomeBrew, but the band had to pull out due to a scheduling conflict earlier in the week. Organizers asked university staple Jodie Manross to fill in.
Jodie came in to do an acoustic set at the last minute and it was great, Boyce said. I am really glad to see how it turned out.
The concert, filled with mostly freshmen, lasted from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., with each of the acts performing a 45-minute set.
The Campus Entertainment Board picked the bands using the same criteria it uses for Battle of the Bands.
We want the bands to be comprised of UT students mainly, Boyce said.
The first band to take the stage, Slow Children Playing, did not make the final cut for Battle of the Bands, but they made a good impression on the Campus Entertainment Board, Boyce said.
We really like them, Boyce said. So we wanted to give them some student exposure.
Jodie Manross took the stage next, and Laith Keilany accompanied her acoustically. The last band to play was the reigning Battle of the Bands champion, Bloom.
They did really well last year, Boyce said. We knew we definitely wanted to have them back.
