Students and faculty who want to exercise their charitable muscles will get a chance this month during the 2000 Campus Chest campaign.
Campus Chest is a university campaign that allows contributors to give donations to selected organizations either directly or through payroll reductions each month.
According to Campus Chest Chair Jeff Chapman, the university has continually participated in the fundraising campaign and is looking forward to a big response from campus.
Employees of the university have made a significant difference in the lives of those who need help, and I am confident they will continue to care and share, Chapman said.
Interested parties can designate the agency to receive their money, including organizations like the United Way and Community Shares.
The United Way is an umbrella group of local organizations that are governed by local volunteers who raise money to support community service agencies.
Community Shares is a federation of community groups in Tennessee who have joined together to raise money cooperatively for their programs. Its purpose is to raise funds for its members’ groups, primarily through employee giving campaigns, to foster a network of social change organizations.
Solicitors will be visiting different departments around campus to answer questions and hand out pledge cards.
We have units, such as the College of Arts and Sciences, that have a goal each year as far as donations are concerned, Chapman said.
There is also a student goal that is being handled by the Student Services branch of the Student Government Association.
The deadline to sign pledge cards and give donations is Nov. 2.
