A group of UT interns will be holding a promotional event featuring games and food before the Arkansas game Saturday that will raise money for the Knoxville Love Kitchen.
The 16 students are currently participating in the General Motors Marketing Internship, in conjunction with Delmar Haynes Pontiac-GMC, a Knoxville-based automobile dealership. The event is the culmination of a project in which he interns were required to research promotion of the new Pontiac Aztec.
This event is the culmination of a lot of hard work, said intern Christie Vaughn.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. at Fiji Island. Tug-of-war competitions will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a limbo contest at 10 a.m. and a hula contest at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
Food provided by Smokey Mountain Barbecue will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. Money raised will benefit the Love Kitchen.
This will give students and game-goers a chance to contribute for a great cause, Vaughn said.
Delmar Haynes provided the interns with $2,500 in program funding. The students formed a marketing agency, AdapTeam Promotions, with the assistance of James Whitfield of EdVenture Partners, the agency that coordinates educational initiatives for General Motors.
The overall objective for the interns was to allow them the opportunity to gain real-life business experience while developing and implementing an innovative promotional campaign.
