A variety of people, young and old, in shape and out of shape, no matter what size, will be running, jogging, walking and crawling in the first ever All Sizes All People 5K run Saturday in Circle Park.
The ASAP 5K is unusual in that winning categories are based on weight, rather than age.
Regular 5Ks can be very intimidating to beginners and even intermediates as they always feel they will be in last place and cannot compete with the runner, said Sherry Jones, co-race coordinator. This event promotes finishing, however you have to do it.
Late registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. in Circle Park, with an entry fee of $17. The race will begin at 9 a.m. Race day registrants will receive shirts and goody bags while supplies last.
The ASAP 5K is also holding a team series that is open to businesses, organizations, groups, clubs and schools, allowing the groups to compete in classes based on the number of participants in each group. Everyone will receive a ribbon upon crossing the finish line.
According to Jones, proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association because heart disease is the number one killer for men and women.
This will even change lives, Jones said. It will inspire all sizes, all peoples’ to continue this high and develop an exercise routine.
Some studies have shown physical activity produces clearer minds, better attitudes and more productivity, Jones said.
