Following Tennessee baseball’s College World Series win on Monday, the Vols will hold a parade and celebration in Downtown Knoxville on Tuesday when the team returns to Knoxville.
The parade will begin at 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Gay Street and Main Street and move north up Gay Street. It will culminate in Market Square where the Vols will host a championship celebration.
The celebration will air live on Tennessee athletics’ YouTube channel and on SEC Network+. The linear SEC Network channel will air the ceremony on delay at 7:00 p.m.
The Vols won the CWS with a 6-5 victory over Texas A&M in the winner-take-all third game of the championship series. Tennessee lost the first game of the series but won the next two to force Monday’s final game.
Christian Moore started off Tennessee’s offense with a homer to left field in the first inning, giving the Vols an early lead. Tennessee scored two more runs in the third inning, giving it a 3-1 advantage.
Dylan Dreiling’s two-run home run gave Tennessee a 5-1 lead, and Hunter Ensley avoided a tag at the plate on a Kavares Tears double to score the eventual game-winning run. The Aggies rallied late to score four runs in the final two innings, but it wasn’t enough to take down the Vols.
Dreiling was named the Most Oustanding Player of the tournament thanks to his three home runs, all of which came during the championship series.
Tennessee baseball’s win is the first national championship in program history and the first national championship in any sport for Tennessee since 2009. The Vols last made the CWS final in 1951, losing to Oklahoma.
Tennessee is the first No. 1 seed to win it all in Omaha since Miami did so in 1999, the first year of national seeding in the NCAA baseball tournament.
