At around 7:30 a.m., Knoxville Police Department officers and Knoxville Fire Department personnel responded to the area of 900 Neyland Drive near the Wayne G. Basler Boathouse after receiving a report of a body floating in the Tennessee River. KFD deployed their boat and were able to recover the body from the river approximately 150 yards to the west of the Henley Street Bridge.
The deceased is an adult woman, age 22 who was a student at the University of Tennessee. She was transported to the Regional Forensic Center for further evaluation and an autopsy.
“At this time, foul play is not suspected, and it appears that the death was a suicide, though the investigation is still ongoing,” Scott Erland, the communications manager for KPD, told the Beacon.
The investigation is still ongoing.
