Welcome to “From my journal to yours,” the column where I’ll share creative journal prompts designed to spark reflection, inspire creativity and encourage you to dive into your thoughts. Each entry is an invitation to pause and write. Let’s explore together, one prompt at a time.
If you could live in any TV show universe, which would you choose and why?
So many ideas come to mind. The nostalgic Tanner household from ‘Full House’, the Banks’ mansion in ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ or Mystic Falls from ‘The Vampire Diaries’. However, the world that truly captures my heart is Stars Hollow from ‘Gilmore Girls’.
I’d love to live in such a cozy town where autumn wraps every corner with joy and splendor. My day would begin with a pumpkin pancake breakfast at Luke’s Diner. Then, I’d spend the morning reading in the iconic gazebo before browsing treasures at Kim’s Antiques. Lunch would take me to the Dragonfly Inn for one of Sookie’s famous meals. Later, I’d visit the Black & White & Read Bookstore before heading to the Autumn Festival in the town square.
Stars Hollow embodies fun, joy and coziness, which are the very qualities that keep fans rewatching ‘Gilmore Girls’ year after year. The quirky characters and charming small-town vibe make it feel like home, even for viewers. In fact, I’m planning my next rewatch in just a few weeks!
Another world I’d love to experience is far less cozy but equally fascinating: the supernatural landscape of ‘The Originals’. While it’s a stark contrast to Stars Hollow, trading pumpkin pancakes for intense magic, it would be a cool adventure.
Set in New Orleans, ‘The Originals’ captures the city’s rich history, traditions and beauty. The Mikaelson compound is ornate and grand, offering Klaus a space to paint while overlooking the French Quarter. I’d immerse myself in jazz music and the unique festivities of New Orleans. A walk through the cemetery with Davina, one of my favorite characters, would be unforgettable. To end the day, I’d visit Rousseau’s for a snack and some local flavor.
Of course, living in this universe would be far from peaceful. Anyone associated with the Mikaelsons seems destined for turmoil, so I’d hope to remain one of the blissfully unaware humans enjoying life in the background. Still, ‘The Originals’ offers depth-filled characters and intricate storylines that makes it alluring.
Finally, I’d be remiss not to mention that I’ve already lived in a TV universe of sorts. Many shows are filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, where my parents and I lived for five years. Though I haven’t watched ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, I’ve visited “Cousins Beach” countless times, which is better known as the stunning Wrightsville Beach.
TV universes allow us to imagine new lives filled with adventure, comfort or sometimes both! Whether it’s sipping coffee at Luke’s or exploring New Orleans’ magical underworld, these fictional worlds give us an escape from reality while inspiring us with their charm and intrigue.
