Knoxville and second-hand shopping go hand in hand. With dozens of thrift stores and antique shops around town, there is always a little something for everyone.
Mood Ring Vintage, located on Sevier Avenue, is now hosting its third annual Knoxville Vintage Shopping Bingo through the end of February. Visit participating antique and thrift locations to get a bingo card and receive a stamp for each store you visit. Once you get five stamps in a row, head over to Mood Ring Vintage with your card to get a prize and be entered into a grand prize raffle!
The bingo card features 25 shops around Knoxville, including familiar names like Architectural Antics, Bearden Antique Mall and Nostalgia. Mood Ring’s vintage bingo is a great opportunity to visit second-hand stores you’ve never been to before and check out what they have to offer.
Architectural Antics, for one, isn’t just about old furniture and vintage clothing. They specialize in architectural salvage and interior-focused pieces that bring character into living spaces.
Architectural Antics partners Greg Patterson, Dayton Hanford and Abram Hanford get their decor through donations, going out to buy certain pieces, or even making items themselves from reclaimed parts.
“We try to have a focus on architectural salvage, antique doors and mantles, but we also try to have a little something for everybody,” Abram Hanford said.
For students looking for unique art decor for their apartment or just wanting to take a walk through a time capsule workshop, Architectural Antics is one of a kind.
Mood Ring Vintage, the event’s host, is a booth-style antique shop featuring items from all past decades. Each booth is specialized to its host’s tastes, making walking through the store a blast from the past.
From vintage leather jackets and old band posters to pottery and glassware, the store’s variety attracts collectors, casual shoppers and students alike. To complete your bingo card, all you have to do is visit the stores to get a stamp, making it accessible to everyone.
“There’s no purchase necessary, so it’s a free way for people to go around and check out stores that they haven’t even heard of,” Carly Baskette said, the owner of Mood Ring Vintage.
Mood Ring Vintage’s outreach with its community is a big part of the store’s identity and makes the shop stand out in the antique scene.
“We do two markets a year, a spring and a fall market,” Baskette said. “Right now we’re collecting donations for Knoxville immigrant families, and we donate to a different charity every quarter through rounding up.”
Mood Ring Vintage and Architectural Antics are only two of 25 stores on the bingo card, and there are even more in the area that didn’t make it onto the board. Every store has a different vibe that is worth stopping in to check out.
For students looking to engage with Knoxville’s antique life, Mood Ring Vintage’s bingo offers an accessible way to support local businesses and shop second-hand.
