The members of Vols Ski Club will hit the slopes over winter break on an outing to Park City, Utah, from Jan. 3 to Jan. 10 and invite all interested UT students to join them.
“This trip is open to anybody and everybody on campus, and it’s an exciting opportunity for people that haven’t skied or have skied before … we would just like everybody who has an interest in skiing to come out on break and see what skiing out in the West is all about,” Andrew S. Case, Vols Ski Club president, said.
Case said the Vols Ski Club tries to offer an alternative to UT Ski and Snowboard Club’s usual trips to Colorado by providing different trip locations like Utah.
Park City not only has three mountains in close vicinity to each other but also The Canyons Resort, which is Utah’s largest.
According to Case, beginners are able to learn to ski much faster out West because there are so many trails.
Gregory P. Sherrod, Vols Ski Club vice president, emphasized the social aspect of the trip.
“You can make a lot of friends … we try to do as much together as possible to create friendships, and once we’re back here we’ll go just on little, small trips,” he said. “People will call us up and want to go around the East Coast. It gets the networking out there so people have more connections. So they know if they want to go ski someplace, they can always call one of those people.”
Sherrod said so far 25 to 30 people are planning to go on the trip, and last year, 40 went to Whistler, British Columbia.
The package for the trip is $1,000 and includes airfare from Nashville, lodging, lift tickets and transfers between Salt Lake City and Park Station. Case said participants may subtract the airfare amount and find their own if they choose. A $200 deposit is due Nov. 10.
