Paul Newman may not be the freshest face in Hollywood, but he’s far from
over the hill.
How many movies out there can keep the audience on the edge of their seat
panting with excitement over what will happen next? How many films can do
all that with only character development and plot – minus the big
explosions and special effects? Probably not many, but the new film
Where the Money Is meets this difficult feat in style.
Henry Manning (Newman) is an ex-bank robber who has recently been
transferred to a nursing home following a stroke. Nurse Carol McKay (Linda
Fiorentino), is assigned to take care of him. McKay discovers Manning’s
intriguing past and convinces him to help her steal a little money.
Although the “bank robbers” theme is very common, Where the Money Is
manages to add a few new twists to this theme and keep it very
interesting.
The film may not have the Hollywood hype and special effects to which many
other films presently owe their success – but it contains some of the best
acting to grace the screen in a quite a while. Newman gives a superb
performance as he plays opposite Linda Fiorentino (Men In Black). The
two have great on-screen chemistry together and virtually make the
characters they portray come to life.
Where the Money Is gets an A+ for story and six out of five stars for
acting. Anyone who enjoys a good story and not those mindless one-liner
films should go out for this one.
