The Tomato Head will welcome a veritable feast of indie music tonight.
White Star Line and It Rains Into the Sea and Still the Sea is Salt will put on a show that promises to be more than just an average concert.
The deafening sound that most bands normally hope to exude in concert may be drowned out with a more subtle, unique sound.
Along with standard instruments such as bass, guitar and drums, Toronto-based White Star Line includes some more exotic instruments that are uncharacteristic of a modern band.
The inclusion of the violin and a xylophone in the medley of sounds the band produces adds a certain sense of zest and a refreshing quality to their music.
Appearing along with WSL will be the independent group It Rains Into the Sea and Still the Sea is Salt. This coalition of creative minds is more than just the sum of their music.
The band’s shows consist of films, slides, photographs and lights in addition to the music. This sort of melting-pot for the senses was described by band member Jesse Wagner as, more alloy than element.
The band prefers not to disclose their identities to the audience but instead likes to let the music speak for itself.
Without a reference to ourselves, the audience is forced to accept the music’ as the only distinguishing characteristic, Wagner said.
This technique forces the audience to create their own interpretations of the whole experience.
You see what you want to see, and what is left remains undisclosed, Wagner said.
The show starts tonight at 9 p.m. at Tomato Head and is free.
