LOCAL ROCKERS HIT THE ROAD:
The Knoxville-born gee-tar monsters known as Hypertribe are gearing
up for a bona fide “On Tour” experience. Appearing tonight at
Flamingo’s, the band will play extensively in California and even
venture into Mexico.
Hypertribe will play several shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San
Diego. The band is going primarily to perform for record company
executives.
After playing the Crossroads Music Industry Seminar in Memphis on April 7,
Hypertribe will return to Knoxville April 8 to perform at a fundraiser for
WUTK 90.3 FM.
Admission to tonight’s show is $4.
GOOBERS AND LAUGHS:
Detroit’s Goober and the Peas will play at 10 p.m. tonight at
the Mercury Theatre. A close-up and CD review of their new release
is in today’s Daily Beacon.
Comedian Marty Putz appears at 8 p.m. tonight at the University
Center.
Free Fourmula will perform at 9:30 tonight at Manhattan’s. Admission
is $3.
CUCKOO THEATRE:
Theatre Central debuts its production of One Flew Over the
Cuckoo’s Nest Friday, March 3, at 8 p.m. Dale Wasserman’s stage
adaptation of Ken Kesey’s novel stars Ed White and Margy
Ragsdale as R.P Murphy and Nurse Ratched, respectively the wacky
patient and the impatient nurse.
Notable locals in the cast include Jim Conn and Peyton
Wilson, who recently appeared as “Mugger and Victim” and “Domestically
Troubled Couple” for Channel Six’s series on Knoxville crime.
Charlie Belcher plays Chief Bromden in this popular comic tragedy
(?). Other inmates include Neil Cain, Steve Denton, Allan
Harjala and Rick Patton.
The play will run Thursdays through Saturdays until April 22. Admission is
$5 on Thursdays, $8 on Fridays and Saturdays. Students with UT ID pay $5
for all performances. Reservations are available by calling 546-3926.
ROCK FOR REBELS:
Knoxville’s Friends of the Zapatista’s present a special Rock for
the Zapatistas Concert Saturday night at the Mercury Theatre.
This benefit for the Chiapas Relief Fund features two films about the
current rebellion in Southern Mexico showing at 8 p.m., followed by live
music from Sexpod and Knoxville favorites The Rude Street
Peters. Admission is $5 with all proceeds going toward humanitarian aid
in Chiapas.
