Knoxville’s darlings of pop stardom make a very special hometown appearance
tonight on one of the city’s biggest stages. The Judybats celebrate the
release of Full Empty with a performance at the Tennessee
Amphitheatre. This marks their fourth release on the Warner/Sire label.
Local rising stars Superdrag, who will soon release a seven-inch single of
their own on Darla Records, open tonight’s show. The excitement starts at 8
p.m. and admission is $10.
Several bands around town dare to play on the same night as this supershow.

Crop Circles, 10 p.m. at Zarbo’s, 820 N. Fourth Ave., featuring ex-members
of Rapscallion Battery and Soul Penny.
Flat Planet, 9:30 p.m. at Manhattan’s in the Old City.
Christine Kane, 9 p.m. at Java, A Coffee House, in the Old City.
Jazz Liberation Quintet, 9:30 p.m. at Bullfrog’s, in the Old City.
Crawdaddy, 10 p.m. at Hawkeye’s.
Bill Scarlett Trio, 9:30 p.m. at Lucille’s.
If you’re more in the mood for classic rock than the newest, hottest thing,
you might head out west to the Bombay Bicycle Club. As the old saying goes,
“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” They will be showcasing an
abundance of this sincerity over the next two months. Tributes to some of
rock’s greatest acts will grace the Bicycle Club stage at 6300 Papermill
Road.
Tonight’s kick-off for this series features Toys In The Attic, a tribute to
Aerosmith. Tickets for the series are $5 in advance and $7.50 on the day of
the show. Future tributes include:
Fortunate Son, a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute, on September
15.
Rushour, a Rush tribute, on September 22.
Seattle, in honor of the Seattle “grunge” sound of Pearl Jam, Sound Garden,
and Nirvana.
Crazy Diamonds, a Pink Floyd tribute, along with a “laser-infested
multimedia extravaganza.”
Cold Shot, a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute, on October 27.
Mr. Crowley, an Ozzy Osbourne tribute, will present a special Halloween
concert that promises “skulls, snakes, rats and gargoyles.” There will also
be a Costume Contest. Tickets will be $6 in advance and $8 on the day of
the show.
