Eight UT students were arrested Thursday by the University of Tennessee Police Department for their alleged involvement in a robbery that occurred in North Carrick Hall on Feb. 24.

The incident was reported to UTPD on Feb. 27, three days after it took place, by university students and North Carrick Hall roommates Harrison Brown and Austen Bur.

Brown and Bur, along with a witness who was present at the time of the robbery, told officers that two male students they knew knocked on their door at approximately 9 p.m. that Tuesday night. After allowing the two students to enter, six more followed them into the room. Once all eight suspects were inside, they demanded money and stole several items from the two residents.

The victims told UTPD officers they did not interfere with the robbery because they felt intimidated by the number of intruders, according to an email UTPD sent out Thursday notifying the student body of the arrests.

The victims and the witness also explained to UTPD officers that the suspects claimed they would hurt the victims if they did not cooperate. The police report released to The Daily Beacon showed weapons were involved.

UTPD obtained warrants for arrest on March 4 after conducting an initial investigation, and six students were arrested Wednesday.

Suspects Charles Howe and Blake Wallace turned themselves in to the detention facility Thursday.

Each suspect is charged with two counts of robbery, a Class C felony.

UTPD did not release a safety notice because the alleged incident was reported to the police department three days after it occurred, and there was no immediate threat to campus.
