Tennessee celebrates after winning the College World Series title over Texas A&M at Charles Schwab Field. Monday, June 24, 2024.
The special edition includes exclusive reporting from Charles Schwab Field and photos of the historic night and championship parade. Read what Peyton Manning as well as current head coaches Josh Heupel and Rick Barnes had to say about watching the Vols clinch the first national championship in program history. It also includes reactions from current Vols as well as providing historical perspective on the magnitude of the moment.
The Beacon was in Omaha for 12 days, producing 43 articles as well as photo sets from every game. Some of that hard work is included in the commemorative special edition.
What this championship means to Tennessee
Tennessee hadn’t won a championship in any sport since 2009. In a major men’s sport, it had been since football in 1998 that any team had clinched a national championship.
That changed when head coach Tony Vitello led the Vols to the pinnacle of college baseball on Monday night.
Tennessee baseball finally got over the hump to get the ring that has eluded the program since its beginning.
There is no longer a question whether Vitello and the Vols belong at the top of college baseball. The run rebukes many of the questions around Vitello’s program and whether the play style will be successful on a consistent basis.
The head coach has found the formula, and he doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon. The special edition, hitting racks on Wednesday morning, will be an ageless testament to the growth of Tennessee baseball.
