Elections are determined by the people who show up. As election day draws ever closer, it is imperative that students know where they need to go in Knoxville to cast their votes in this historic election.
Polling places are determined by a person’s residential address and should be accessible to all — regardless of any disabilities.
The following list outlines the districts that directly surround campus, though it is by no means comprehensive. Students can find the complete list of places for both early voting and election day polling on the Tennessee Secretary of State’s website.
Districts 10A, 10W and 10S
These districts make up the majority of the University of Tennessee campus, including Sorority Village. Students who are registered to vote in these districts are assigned to the university’s own Howard H. Baker Jr. Center to cast their votes on election day.
District 10N
This district consists of most of the Fort Sanders neighborhood where many students live. Students who are registered to vote within this district are assigned to cast their ballots at the Fort Sanders Educational Development Center on election day.
District 06
This district serves voters who live within downtown Knoxville. Students who are registered to vote in this district can vote at the Green Magnet Academy on election day.
District 09
District 09 encompasses parts of Mechanicsville and a small portion of Marble City. Students registered to vote here can go to the Eternal Life Harvest Center on the day of the election to cast their ballots.
District 24Q
District 24Q serves residents in and around the Sequoyah Hills neighborhood. The assigned polling place for students registered to vote in this district is the Sequoyah Hills Elementary School.
District 25
This district contains the western portion of the South Knoxville neighborhood surrounding Cherokee Farm. Students registered to vote here may cast their ballots at the South Knoxville Community Center on election day.
District 26
District 26 serves residents on the eastern side of South Knoxville. Students registered to vote in District 26 are eligible to cast their ballots at Dogwood Elementary School.
District 50S
This voting district serves residents of Marble City and the area surrounding the throughway Sutherland Avenue. West High School is the designated voting location for this district.
Early Voting
Students unable to make it to their assigned polling locations on election day have the option to cast their votes early, beginning Oct. 16 through Oct. 31.
Early voting locations are not dependent on where voters live — they can visit whichever location is most convenient for them. The Howard H. Baker Jr. Center on campus is the most convenient and central location for any student registered to vote within Knox County.
The Tennessee Secretary of State’s website also has a full list of early voting locations for Knox County residents.
Vote by Mail
Students who are registered to vote in Knox County but will not be present on the day of the election can request an absentee ballot from the Knox County Election Commission no later than Oct. 29.
If the request is accepted, the voter must ensure that their ballot is returned by mail to the Knox County Election Commission before the polls are closed on election day, Nov. 5.
Anyone who is still unsure of their assigned voting district or polling place should contact the Knox County Election Commission via its website or by phone at (865) 215-2480.
