It’ll be a slow week for Tennessee athletics as November ends. With only four sports competing in five total events, it’ll be a nice change of pace from a regular busy week in Knoxville.
Nov. 27: Men’s basketball vs. UT Martin – one “T-Credit” opportunity
The Vols open the short week hosting the UT Martin Skyhawks. Tennessee (6-0) heads back home after traveling to the Bahamas last week for a tournament. Meanwhile, the Skyhawks (2-4) have struggled as of late. After starting 2-0 this season, UT Martin has lost four straight heading into Knoxville.
At the Baha Mar Championship last week, the Vols impressed. They took commanding wins over Virginia and Baylor en route to winning the tournament. Transfer Chaz Lanier earned MVP honors, averaging 25.5 points on 59% shooting from deep range. Lanier also took home the SEC Player of the Week for his performance.
The Vols are 5-0 against the Skyhawks all-time. The last meeting came in 2021, with Tennessee winning 90-62. The Skyhawks kept it close in 2010, falling short by six points.
Students who attend this game will earn one “T-Credit”.
Nov. 27: Volleyball at Texas
The Lady Vols will close the regular season against the Longhorns in Austin, Texas. Tennessee (15-10, 8-7 SEC) currently sits in sixth place in the SEC standings, while Texas (16-6, 11-3) is in third. Neither team secured an auto-bid into the NCAA Tournament, so both will need a win here as they wait for the selection show on Dec. 1.
The Lady Vols are 1-11 against the Longhorns. Last year, the two met in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Texas took a close 3-2 victory to knock Tennessee out of the tournament.
Nov. 30: Football at Vanderbilt
The Vols will head west to face Vanderbilt for a massive in-state game during rivalry week. Tennessee (9-2, 5-2 SEC) has their playoff hopes resting on this game, securing a spot in the CFP with a win over the Commodores. Vanderbilt (6-5, 3-4) is looking to spoil the Vols’ hopes at home after one of their best seasons in recent memory.
The Vols are 80-32 against the Commodores with a five-game win streak. Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is 4-0 against Vanderbilt during his tenure with the Vols. Although Tennessee is the favorite by two scores, it must focus on this game since it could be the biggest of the year.
Dec. 3: Basketball vs. Syracuse – one “T-Credit” opportunity
Basketball will be the only sport that plays twice this week. The Vols will host the Syracuse Orange (3-2), who have been on a skid. The Orange have lost their last two games to Texas and Texas Tech by a combined nine points. The Vols will look to add another win over another ACC opponent before traveling to New York to face Miami the following week.
Tennessee and Syracuse have met only seven times. Tennessee has won the last three, dating back to 2000 when it took home a decisive win at Syracuse.
Students who attend this game will earn one “T-Credit”.
Dec. 4: Women’s basketball vs. Florida State – one “T-Credit” opportunity
The Lady Vols will finish up the week for athletics. Tennessee (5-0) will host the Florida State Seminoles (5-1), who have had a solid season so far. The Seminoles will play three games in three days heading into this matchup, so keep an eye on how Kim Caldwell’s rotations can force a tired Florida State to guard fresh players.
Tennessee is 2-1 against the Seminoles, although both wins were from the 1980s. Florida State’s lone win came in 2023 when it won 92-91 in a nail-biter.
Students who attend this game will earn one “T-Credit.”
