Peyton Hubbs, 19, was charged with a felony after filing a false police report Tuesday, April 9. The report stated that a robbery had occurred at 1720 Melrose Place.
UT students were alerted to the alleged armed robbery late April 9. Less than 40 minutes later, the University of Tennessee Police Department followed up saying the “incident did not occur.”
When UTPD responded to Hubb’s call about an aggravated robbery, he provided the officers with a full description of the suspect, including their height and weight. He stated that the robbery had occurred in a UT parking lot a block away, located at 1720 Lake Avenue.
When UTPD investigated the call, they discovered that the robbery had not occurred. Surveillance cameras in the area found no evidence of the encounter.
Hubbs admitted to lying about the armed robbery and was charged with false reporting — which is a felony — along with two misdemeanors of illegal gambling and simple possession. He was booked into the Knox County Detention Center.
