Tennessee athletics announced $5.7 million of facility upgrades for the Tennessee softball program on Wednesday, including major renovations to Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Tennessee’s clubhouse will be expanded and will see the addition of offices for coaches. A gaming lounge, team meal space and rest area are all set to be introduced to the clubhouse.
Spaces for injury and rehabilitation are also set to be included in the new plans. The locker room will be redesigned, and a study space will be added within the clubhouse.
Existing renovations to Sherri Parker Lee Stadium include expanded seating in right field, outfield porches and standing-room outfield areas.
“Our softball program continues to be one of the nation’s elite under Karen (Weekly’s) leadership,” athletic director Danny White said. “The facility expansion and enhancements are a part of our continued vision of investing in and providing our programs with the resources to compete for championships.”
Last season, Tennessee softball advanced to the Women’s College World Series for the eighth time in program history and the first time since 2015. The Lady Vols also won both the SEC regular season and tournament championships, winning a conference title for the first time since 2011.
Tennessee is currently ranked No. 8 in the country and has a 14-4 record. The Lady Vols will host the Tennessee Invitational this weekend, including Missouri State, South Dakota and Ohio State. Conference play for Tennessee begins on March 15 against Missouri.
“Sherri Parker Lee Stadium has long been one of the finest softball facilities in the country,” Tennessee head coach Karen Weekly said. “Our administration is committed to being the best, and the upcoming clubhouse renovation and addition along with upgrades to student-athlete training and development spaces will allow us to continue to recruit and develop the very best softball student-athletes. I’m grateful to Danny White and all who support Lady Vol softball for their shared vision of excellence.”
