The Vols had an uncharacteristic offensive outing this past Saturday as they hosted a primetime match against the Oklahoma Sooners. This loss effectively quenched the Vols’ playoff hopes with three games remaining in the regular season.
Josh Heupel and the Vols hope to regroup during their bye week before hosting New Mexico State for Homecoming next weekend.
Here’s how all of Tennessee’s 2025 opponents fared in Week 10.
Week 1 – Syracuse (Aug. 30)
Final Score: North Carolina 27, Syracuse 10
Syracuse came out offensively in the first half, leading the Tar Heels 10-6 at the half. Unfortunately, that’s just about all the Orange could muster, scoring no points in the second half.
They were left to rely on their defense, which ultimately didn’t pay off, as they let up 17 unanswered points from the Tar Heels while tallying no sacks on the day.
The Orange’s recent struggles have been largely influenced by their carousel of quarterbacks throughout the season. After Steve Angeli tore his Achilles against Clemson in Week 4, Rickie Collins took over, going winless in his four starts, leading the Orange to go with true freshman Joe Filardi this past weekend.
The Orange are in for a tough matchup this weekend as they travel to Miami to face the Hurricanes.
Week 2- ETSU (Sept. 6)
Bye Week
Week 3- Georgia (Sept. 13) @ Week 12- Florida (Nov. 22)
Final Score: Georgia 24, Florida 20
A back-and-forth game for the two Tennessee opponents ultimately came down to a series of mistakes by the Gators in the fourth quarter to hand the Bulldogs their fourth consecutive win.
The two teams went into the half tied 10 a piece and came back out to each score a touchdown in the third quarter.
The game came down to the wire in the fourth quarter, but a failed conversion on fourth and one deep in Bulldog territory ended up being the start of the Gators’ downfall. The returning drive by the Bulldogs resulted in a touchdown off a Chauncey Bowers 36-yard run with 4:36 remaining, creating the game-ending score of 24-20.
Georgia travels to Mississippi State this weekend for a Bulldog battle, while the Gators travel to Lexington to face the offensively struggling Wildcats.
Week 4- UAB (Sept. 20)
Final Score: UConn 38, UAB 19
Looking to bring the momentum from their upset win against Memphis after their bye week, the Blazers traveled to UConn to face the 7-1 Huskies.
The Blazer offense came out struggling, scoring no points throughout the entire first half, while Ryder Burton was intercepted twice by the Huskies. Both interceptions resulted in scoring drives for UConn, leaving the Blazers trailing 24-0 at halftime.
The Blazers attempted a rally in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 unanswered points off two touchdowns, including a failed two-point conversion. Unfortunately, these late efforts were simply not enough to catch the Huskies, handing Blazer interim head coach Alex Mortensen his first loss since taking over for Trent Dilfer on Oct. 22.
UAB travels to Texas this weekend to take on the struggling Rice Owls.
Week 5- Mississippi State (Sept. 27) @ Week 7- Arkansas (Oct. 11)
Final Score: MS State 38, Arkansas 35
The Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter to erase a 14-point deficit to overtake the Razorbacks in Fayetteville this past weekend. The two teams have struggled in conference play in recent years and were winless against SEC teams this year prior to this matchup.
Although the Bulldogs struck first with a touchdown midway through the first quarter, the Razorbacks fought right back, putting up 13 points and forcing the Bulldogs scoreless in the second quarter.
While Arkansas continued its scoring streak in the third quarter, three consecutive scores by the Bulldogs in the fourth silenced the Razorback defense. Blake Shapen’s 18-yard pass to Anthony Evans III with 48 seconds remaining gave the Bulldogs their first conference win since 2023.
Arkansas hopes to recuperate in its bye week before attempting to get Bobby Petrino his first win with the Razorbacks against LSU on the eighth. The Bulldogs are looking to carry their momentum into a difficult Bulldog matchup against Georgia this weekend.
Week 8- Alabama (Oct. 18)
Bye Week
Week 9- Kentucky (Oct. 25)
Final Score: Kentucky 10, Auburn 3
This conference matchup quickly turned into a battle of defenses, with both teams exhibiting low offensive production.
Wildcat quarterback Cutter Boley only recorded 161 passing yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the game. The defense answered, putting up seven sacks against the Tigers along with 13 tackles for loss.
This game marked the Wildcats’ first win against Auburn since 2009, providing them with more energy as they prepare to host the Florida Gators this weekend.
Week 11- New Mexico State
Final Score: Western Kentucky 35, NM State 16
The Aggies struggled offensively this week against a strong 7-2 Hilltoppers team, recording a meager 179 total yards.
Kicker Ryan Hawk led scoring for the Aggies, tallying three field goals, including one from 50 yards.
Though the Aggies were only down by eight at the half, they were unable to shut down the Hilltopper offense, which ended up scoring three more touchdowns. A 71-yard fumble return by Stilton McKelvey for a touchdown lessened the blow for the Aggies at the end of the fourth, but still resulted in a 35-16 loss.
New Mexico State will host 6-2 Kennesaw State, led by former Tennessee running backs coach Jerry Mack, this weekend.
Week 12- Vanderbilt (Nov. 29)
Final Score: Vanderbilt 31, Texas 34
Despite a desperate rally in the fourth quarter, the Commodores were held off by the Longhorns, receiving their second loss of the season and potentially putting their playoff hopes in jeopardy with three games remaining.
Although Diego Pavia recorded a career high single-game passing yards with 365 and led the team in rushing, he was sacked six times for a loss of 39 yards and one fumble that was recovered by the Longhorns.
The Commodore defense was ultimately their weakness against the Longhorns, recording no sacks and just one tackle for loss.
This disconnected Commodore team seeks to revert to its former selves as it hosts the struggling Auburn Tigers on Saturday.
