It’s a busy week for Tennessee as three sports begin their spring season. Baseball begins its title defense on Friday night for a three-day series.
Feb. 13: Women’s basketball vs. Auburn
The Lady Vols start the week in the Food City Center, hosting the Auburn Tigers. The No. 15 Lady Vols (17-6, 4-6 SEC) had a historic win last week, beating No. 5 UConn for the first time in over a decade. They were unable to finish the historic week, falling to the No. 6 LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge on Sunday.
The Lady Vols are 49-12 over the Tigers (12-12, 3-8), winning eight of the last nine. The Tigers have started to find their footing this season, winning two of their last three matchups.
Feb. 14: Track and field at multiple meets
Track and field will all split up to head in different directions. The teams will compete in the Music City Challenge, Tiger Paw Invitational and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. These meets won’t be close together, as they’re in Nashville, Tennessee, Clemson, South Carolina, and Boston, Massachusetts, this weekend.
Feb. 14: Baseball vs. Hofstra
The reigning national champions begin their title defense against Hofstra at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. This will be the first of a three-game series that will run to Sunday afternoon. Although this won’t be a big series, watch for updates on transfer Alberto Osuna and his eligibility heading into the weekend.
Feb. 14: Softball at McNeese State (doubleheader)
The Lady Vols travel to Louisiana to face McNeese State for a Friday doubleheader. Tennessee (5-1) started off the season with a poor performance against Nebraska but has since bounced back. McNeese State (3-2) will be up for a tall task against the Lady Vols, as this is likely the best team they will face this year.
This will be the first meeting between these teams.
Feb. 15: Rowing vs. Louisville
Rowing begins their season in Florida against the Louisville Cardinals. This will be their only action until late March when they host Stanford in Oak Ridge.
Feb. 15: Softball vs. Tulsa
The Lady Vols will continue their road trip, this time heading to Beaumont, Texas, to face Tulsa. The Hurricane (3-2) put up a mighty fight with No. 1 Texas but fell just short, 4-2, on Sunday.
Tennessee is 0-1 against the Hurricane, losing 5-2 in 1998 in the only meeting.
Feb. 15: Men’s basketball vs. Vanderbilt
The Vols play their lone game at home, hosting Vanderbilt. This’ll be a revenge game for No. 5 Tennessee (20-5, 7-5 SEC) after losing to Vanderbilt last month in Nashville. The Commodores (17-7, 5-6) have lost three of their last four games, with the only win coming over Texas last week.
Tennessee is 131-77 against the Commodores but has only won two of the last four meetings.
Feb. 15: Softball at Lamar
Tennessee will play Lamar on Saturday night after its matchup with Tulsa. The Cardinals (3-1) have been solid this year, losing their lone game to Texas, 13-7, in a game that was 6-1 in the seventh inning.
Tennessee is 2-0 over the Cardinals, winning both games 8-0 in 2021.
Feb. 16: Women’s golf at Moon Golf Invitational
The Lady Vols open their spring slate in Melbourne, Florida, against Louisville. After a long break since their fall slate, Tennessee looks to keep up its impressive year.
Feb. 16: Women’s basketball vs. Ole Miss
The Lady Vols will continue their home stand against the Rebels. Ole Miss (16-7, 7-4 SEC) is unranked but boasts wins over ranked Vanderbilt and No. 8 Kentucky. They have a tough stretch coming up after this game, so a win would go a long way for the Rebels.
Tennessee is 52-9 over Ole Miss, losing just two games since the 1996 season. The Lady Vols lost last year in Oxford but are favorites in this game.
Feb. 18: Swim and dive at SEC Championships
After a sweep of Duke, Tennessee turns its attention towards the postseason. First up is the SEC Championships, where both teams will compete after strong seasons.
Feb. 18: Baseball vs. UNC Asheville
The Vols round out the week at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. This time, they’ll face UNC Asheville, another lesser opponent.
Tennessee is 32-7 against the Bulldogs, winning the last 10 meetings dating back to 2015.
