Tennessee softball picked up yet another win Tuesday, beating Eastern Kentucky, 8-0.
Karen Weekly and the No. 7 Lady Vols (26-4) picked up their 17th run-rule win of the season over the Colonels (19-7). Tuesday’s game in Columbia, Tennessee was attended by more than 3,500 people.
Sophia Nugent led Tennessee’s offense with two home runs, driving in six runs. She created separation in the game with a third-inning grand slam.
Karlyn Pickens threw four innings, allowing one hit and three walks. She struck out seven batters in the win.

Pickens allowed two walks in her first inning of work but didn’t allow either runner in. In the bottom of the first, Tennessee couldn’t take advantage of a McKenna Gibson base on balls.
Destiny Rodriguez led off the second inning with a base hit, and Nugent gave Tennessee its first runs in the game with a two-run home run to center. After the homer, the Lady Vols recorded three straight outs.
Eastern Kentucky led off the third inning by putting two runners on base. Pickens sent the next three batters down, ending the inning with a strikeout looking.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Rodriguez drove in a run by drawing a walk. Nugent cleared the bases with a grand slam, putting the Lady Vols up seven runs.
Taylor Pannell gave Tennessee its first runner of the fourth inning, and Ryan Brown’s single drove in Pannell to put the Lady Vols up eight. Erin Nuwer threw the fifth inning for the Lady Vols, finishing off the run-rule win.

Tennessee softball returns to SEC play Saturday to kick off a three-game series with No. 14 Arkansas. The Razorbacks were swept by Oklahoma last weekend but rebounded to pick up a 6-3 win over Central Arkansas during the midweek.
