Even though the Tennessee Volunteers are traveling to Athens, Georgia, for this Saturday’s game, recruiting has not taken a back seat.

Tennessee’s coaches were on the road late last week, visiting several of UT’s commitments and top targets in the 2015 class and beyond.

Some of the targets the Vols’ coaches visited in the 2015 class included four-star linebacker/defensive end Ricky DeBerry, four-star defensive end Darrell Taylor and four-star cornerback Justin Martin.

Coaches visited prospects in the 2016 class as well, including four-star safety Joejuan Williams, four-star running back Elijah Holyfield and four-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown.

Tuttle’s decision: Five-star defensive tackle Shy Tuttle is set to announce his college decision Friday. Tuttle, a 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive tackle out of Lexington, North Carolina, has received offers from nearly two dozen schools. North Carolina and Tennessee are his perceived leaders, with North Carolina State making a late push.

If Tuttle commits to the Vols, he will give them their second defensive tackle commitment in the class of 2015, joining consensus five-star defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie.

Woods’ departure: Long-time UT commit Jaylond Woods announced Sept. 19 he is officially decommitting from the Vols after being committed to them for nearly 17 months.

When Woods committed April 20, 2013, he gave the Vols their second commitment for the 2015 class. The three-star athlete out of Clinton, Tennessee, was recently ruled ineligible after transferring schools in the offseason.

Woods said he transferred from Lenoir City to Clinton to “live with (his) mom.” However, Greg Boling, the athletic director and assistant principal at Lenoir City, claims the transfer came because of disciplinary issues Woods faced while there.

The decision concerning Woods’s senior season came in mid-August, and his decommitment from UT followed a little over a month later.
