Knoxville has many sweet spots, but one place might just be a bit sweeter than the rest.

Located in the historic Candy Factory in the World’s Fair Park, the South’s Finest Chocolate Factory offers more than 100 gourmet chocolates and candies. While the treats may not be the best in the South, as the title suggests, they will certainly make customers reconsider ever picking up a Hershey bar again.

Entering the building you will be met with a taste of southern culture as a gift and craft store accompanies the shelves of candy. While looking at crafts, customers should notice the kitchen and machinery used in making the candy, which is an interesting backdrop.

The store doesn’t have a big eating area, but sticking around too long would be difficult on your wallet and waistline. Also, the round design in the viewing shelves could leave you dizzy after scoping the candy several times to decide on your choice.

The Chocolate Factory offers an array of chocolate candies from fudges to taffy. If there is a strength, the milk chocolate, which comes in the form of individual bars and a part of other candies such as Grandpa Bears (a mixture of almonds, chocolate and Caramel), definitely is the best.

In general, most candy stories provide good candy, but nothing distinct. The Chocolate Factory’s candies are made daily, which probably helps the freshness leading to the more distinct taste.

Expense is an issue, but the prices are not insanely high. All candies from the viewing shelves are priced by weight. A seven-ounce candy assortments weighs in at $6.50 and one pound for $12.95 are also available in nice designs. The look is targeted at Valentine’s Day gifts but are still good year round.

Candy may be the store’s focal point, but various blends of coffee are also available to entice customers. A small stand located toward the back also provides slushies.

Overall, the Chocolate Factory is good occasionally, but the price should trim the number of visits.
