A nationally known band is finally coming to Knoxville.

Sugar Ray, along with Michael Grubb, will be rocking Blue Cats tonight. Fans of the group can expect a high energy concert.

“I can’t wait to see them (Sugar Ray) in concert,” Lisa Bean, a fan of the group, said. “Mark McGrath has so much energy and has a spontaneous personality. So, anything could happen.”

Sugar Ray is expected to play all its well-known tracks while focusing on its newest album, “In the Pursuit of Leisure.”

“The group will definitely play all their hits and incorporate a lot of the newer album in order to expose fans to that,” Lenore Kinder, director of operations at Blue Cats, said. “They’ll play a good mix of things from mellow to harder rock.”

However, some tunes fans hope to hear don’t always get a lot of airplay on the radio.

“I really want them to play ‘Answer the Phone,'” Bean said. “The radio didn’t pay too much attention to it, but I thought it was one of their best songs. Of course, I have to hear ‘Fly;’ everyone knows the words to that song even if they don’t admit it.”

Opening for the group is Michael Grubb, who has recently played at ThInQ Tank and Hannah’s and should prove to be a nice complement to the show.

“Grubb plays nice acoustic, pop-rock tunes,” Kinder said.

There are big expectations for a sizable crowd at the show tonight.

“I plan on getting there when the door opens,” Bean said. “I figure everyone will be so anxious for the concert that I’ll have to arrive early to be able to see the band.”

For those procrastinators who don’t have tickets, take some advice and go early.

“I suggest for anyone who doesn’t have a ticket to get it in advance,” Kinder said. “If people are waiting to save a dollar, there will be a limited amount available at the door. They should expect a line; so, come early.”

The door opens at 8 p.m., and the concert is slated to begin at 9.
