In a near remake of the original, Urban Legend: Final Cut continues the storyline of college students trying to catch a serial killer at a university.
Graduation is just around the corner and three senior film students are all competing for the same prestigious grant. Amy, Travis and Graham all want to win the Hitchcock Award and pursue a career in Hollywood. But only one can earn the grant and use it to make a name for themselves. After the prodigal student, Travis, fails to deliver on his thesis film, he dies in what is deemed a suicide. Unwilling to accept what was recorded as a suicide, Amy and Graham decide to investigate. The plot then turns into a mass of confusing murders with small assistance from the police.
The absolutely ludicrous storyline attempts to divert attention away from undeveloped characters, bad dialogue and horrid acting by forcing plot twists onto the audience every few minutes. Twisted endings have given a great result to some films, but cramming four or five major plot turns into 10 minutes of screen time leaves the audience disappointed and still wanting.
Some new ideas for a storyline were desperately needed but apparently never delivered to the filmmakers. The plot is so similar to Urban Legend that it almost bores the viewer to watch it.
The single redeeming factor in the film is the ending that triumphantly sounds off the theme to Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Urban Legends: Final Cut proves that a sequel cannot benefit from copying its predecessor.
