Artist: The Presidents of the United States of America
Album: Freaked Out and Small
Label: Music Blitz Records
After being seemingly absent from the music scene with the little-known 1998 release Pure Frosting, The Presidents of the United States of America have returned with the new album Freaked Out and Small.
The hit pop-rock group that brought little gems like Lump, Peaches and Kitty into the music world has produced another album full of catchy feel-good music.
The Presidents exploded onto radio waves everywhere with their hit self-titled debut. However, shortly after a brief success, the group vanished from the music scene in a one-hit-wonder genre. Freaked Out and Small may not see the revival of the threesome, but it does have some merit of its own.
One particularly catchy song is Tiger Bomb. This little ditty is reminiscent of the slower-paced Kitty. Its slow beat is really what makes this song so memorable. It sticks out from the majority of The Presidents’ other songs.
Another number that listeners may enjoy is the simply stated I’m Mad. The lyrics are far from genius, with lines like Well I’m mad pissed off about this whole affair, but that’s half the charm of The Presidents. They don’t mix symbolism into their music to make the audience really think about the deeper meaning to their lyrics. They simply play for listener’s enjoyment.
Most songs on Freaked Out and Small are forgettable, but those few tracks that do stick out make the album worthwhile for fans.
Although the album is not radio-friendly, a listen may be worth the time of previous fans.
