The recent film Boiler Room is a clever drama about getting rich
quick in today’s stock market boom.
Seth Davis is a 19-year-old college dropout who has just signed on with one
of the hottest young investment firms on the market, J.T. Marlin. All of
the brokers at this firm make their first million within three years. Soon
after starting his career, Seth finds out the real reason J.T. Marlin and
all of its brokers are so successful.
Newcomer Ben Young wrote and directed this masterpiece, and he obviously
spared no expense when it comes to the story. This film is very smart, and
it gives a look into the hidden world of high finance and boiler
rooms.
The casting in this film is absolutely superb. Giovanni Ribisi plays the
protagonist, Seth Green. As always, Ribisi does a great job of showing the
audience exactly what the writer had in mind for the character he portrays.
Vin Diesel, Ben Affleck, Jamie Kennedy and Tom Everett Scott costar as some
of the senior brokers at J.T. Marlin. Every performance in this film is at
least very good, if not great.
The music in the film is outstanding. Boiler Room shows some promise
on having a really great soundtrack.
Boiler Room is a great film that deserves more attention than it
seems to be getting. It gives the audience a twisted view of the reality
that brokers deal with every day. Although not everyone can appreciate this
movie, it is definitely a good film for business majors to view.
