Tennessee swim and dive had its first home meet against Louisville and Auburn. The Vols swept Auburn with a combined outcome of 165-132, but fell to Louisville 141-159.
Although the Vols and Lady Vols lost to Louisville, they still put in a strong performance overall.
The meet kicked off with a strong medley relay performance from the Lady Vols, with sophomore Jillian Crooks leading off the relay, along with Emelie Fast, Emily Brown and Camille Spink to close it out — ending the relay in a 1:35.22.
Freshman Avery Luedke put up a season-best in the 1000-yard free, improving on her last performance by over seven percent. Then, Ella Jansen took first place in the 200 free. The sophomore sported a personal best of 1:43.33. She later took first place in the 200 IM, setting a lifetime best of 1:56.25.
Fast carried the momentum into the breaststroke, placing first in the 100 breaststroke, while placing fourth in the 200 breaststroke — earning season bests in both events, respectively. Then, previous SEC finalist Brown proceeded to podium in the 200 fly, and even clocked a 1:55.33, just 0.12% off her lifetime best.
On the men’s side, diver Bennette Greene won the 1-meter with a 400.80, then went on to win again with a blazing 402.40 in the 3-meter board.
Then, the Tennessee men went 1-2 in the 100-yard free. Both Guilherme Caribé and Nikoli Blackman turned in season bests. And USA Team Qualifier, Kamal Muhammad, posted a 46.10 in the 100-yard butterfly, the junior going on to win the event and score vital points for the Vols.
Despite the disappointing loss, the Vols took it in stride. With many of the swimmers going season and lifetime bests, the team was instilled with a new confidence going forward.
The dive team will be back in action later this month, holding the UT Diving Invitational on Nov. 20-22.
