Take a break from all the pressures of class work and go visit a serene place.

The UT Gardens is offering its final guided tour for this year on Oct. 15.

“This is the last tour in the Third Tuesday Twilight tour series,” said James Newburn, a research assistant for the Department of Plant Sciences and Landscape Systems. “The tours highlight what is in bloom and at peak for that (season).”

Although people can visit the gardens at anytime during the year, the guided tours provide visitors with more information.

“Guides will be pointing things out and giving details about things that you may not notice otherwise,” said Susan Hamilton, associate professor and director of landscape design. “Different plants will be pointed out at this tour because it is later in the season. Plants like the golden rod, the pre-annual sunflower and the annual vines are only in bloom in the fall.”

Visitors are also encouraged to ask the guides how-to questions to make their own gardens more beautiful.

“Visitors can meet with a garden expert to see what they might want to put in their home garden,” Newburn said. “Since not everything blooms in the summer, it is an opportunity to see what’s in bloom this time of year.”

This free tour begins at 6 p.m., but people are encouraged to arrive about 15 minutes early. Visitors should park at the Gardens entrance on the Agricultural Campus behind the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Visitors should wear clothing to accommodate the weather. Cameras and insect repellent are also encouraged.
