The American Lung Association is hosting one of its annual fundraisers this
weekend in the form of a million dollar golf contest. The ALA will also
have a celebrity auction later this month.
The American Lung Association of Tennessee’s Copelands of New Orleans
“Million Dollar Swing” Hole-In-One Golf Contest will be held at the Lee
Jane Recreation Center on June 19-21. There will be 14 qualifying rounds to
determine who will get a shot at $1 million.
The closest ball to the pin in each of the qualifying rounds will advance
to the final round. Anyone who scores a hole-in-one during the final
shootout will receive $1 million and a 1998 Suzuki Sidekick. The three
shots closest to the pin will win prizes from Phillips Magnavox.
The cost to participate is $10 for a bucket of 11 balls. A “Free Swing” can
be obtained with a “Coca-Cola Card” or a plastic Coke bottle. Registration
for 25 “Free Swings” has been taking place at about 50 retail businesses in
Knoxville.
The ALA will also hold its Celebrity Keepsakes Exhibit & Auction at the
Belz Factory Outlet Mall in Pigeon Forge on June 26th and 27th. There will
be more than 400 items which have been donated by recording artists,
entertainers and athletes in this year’s auction.
Before the auction, an estimated 14,000 people will walk through the mall
to view the auction items. There will also be a guest appearance by Elvis
Presley impersonator Lou Vuto on June 25 at 2 p.m.
