“The Call of the Wild”
Jack London’s famous novel of the same name comes alive this week, starring Harrison Ford and Dan Stevens. The classic story focuses on a dog named Buck who moves from California to Alaska, where he has to face the harsh climate of the Yukon as a delivery dog on a sled team. With the help of his new owner, John Thornton (Ford), Buck has the adventure of a lifetime.
“Brahms: The Boy II”
This sequel to 2016’s “The Boy” follows the seemingly human doll named Brahms as he haunts a family in the Heelshire’s home. In the first movie, Brahms haunted a family in the same home until the American nanny living there realized he was more sentient than he appeared. This film stars Katie Holmes and Christopher Convery.
“Emma”
In this film adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel of the same name, a young woman named Emma Woodhouse, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, navigates romance in a small English town. As she searches for her true love, she finds herself along the way in her exploration of the rules that dictate her place in society.
“Premature”
This romance and coming-of-age story, follows teenagers Ayanna and Isaiah as they fall in love in Harlem over the course of a summer. Ayanna is forced to deal with the complications of a young relationship, figuring out who she is in the process. “Premature” stars Zora Howard and Joshua Boone, and premieres online on Friday.
“The Last Thing He Wanted”
Starring Anne Hathaway and Ben Affleck, this film chronicles the complicated relationship between a journalist and politics. As she tries to figure out how to reconcile her job with the entanglement of drugs, family and politics in her personal life, she becomes even more involved with the Iran Contra’s activities. This movie premieres on Netflix this Friday.
“Goldie”
Played by Slick Woods, Goldie is a woman with dreams who is trying to make her big break as a dancer in New York City. Following their mother’s incarceration, Goldie and her sisters, Sherrie and Supreme, struggle against the welfare system to fight the separation of their family. This film is directed by Sam de Jong, a Dutch director who films his stories with honesty and hope.
“Top End Wedding”
The second highest grossing film in Australia comes to America online this week. Starring Miranda Tapsell and Gwilym Lee, this film tells the story of a haphazard wedding story as Lauren (Tapsell) and Ned (Lee) adventure across Australia to find Lauren’s missing mother so they can have their perfect wedding. As they search for Lauren’s mother, they discover more than they bargained for.
