Live from Fort Sanders! It’s Knoxville’s version of Saturday Night Live!
Well, not really. But WUTK-FM and Radio Free Theatre will present Live
from Fort Sanders, a benefit for Circle Modern Dance and the Tennessee
Stage Company.
Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m., performances will be taped for
broadcast on Radio Free Theatre, a radio theater show running 9 p.m. on
Sunday nights. Will you be able to say, “I was there” ?
The performances will feature live music, dance and theater at the Laurel
Theatre. Circle Modern Dance, the Cheeksters, Amelia Earhart Returns and
the Rent Boys will perform. Can-Can, a play by Romulus Linney, and a new
radio play featuring performers from the University of Tennessee Theatre
Department will also be performed.
Here’s a little background:
Circle Modern Dance, a four-year-old dance company with an international
cast, has contributed to the Knoxville community with many organizations
like AIDS Response Knoxville, the Tennessee School for the Deaf and the
Kwanza Festival. They will perform two pieces in conjunction with music
from the Cheeksters.
The Cheeksters, an international duo, have been a local acoustic, rock and
funk favorite for years in K-town and the surrounding area. They have
performed at famed venues in New York and are just returning from
performing in England. Not to be missed.
Amelia Earhart Returns is an acoustic duo that has gathered a loyal cult
following with lush vocals, rich jazz and folk-tinged songs.
All of these performances, along with the Rent Boys, should prove to be a
fruitful and enjoyable performance ; the last performance from the
Cheeksters and Circle Modern Dance got rave reviews. Tickets are $5 at the
door.
