Attention music lovers. The brain child of Karen Thompson, New Rock 90’s
music director , has been born. She landed a major promotion of the Fourth
Annual Lollapalooza show in Charlotte, N.C. The winner of tickets will
receive two gold seats for the show, and hotel accommodations for August
11.
“Blockbuster Pavilion called up the station to negotiate a promotion. Since
New Rock 90 reports to Gavin, a national radio publication, we were
considered to be candidates for a potential offer. WUTK is the only station
in town with tickets,” Thompson said.
“New Rock 90 is a four-star station. There are only two six-star stations,
and a small handful of five-star stations, four stars is a top priority
station. And this promotion shines as an example of how important New Rock
90 really is,” she said.
The festival will feature bands that tested the boundaries between popular
and alternative music. Featured on the main stage will be Smashing
Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, George Clinton, The Breeders, A Tribe Called Quest,
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, L7, and Green Day. The second stage will
feature lesser-known upcoming bands like Luscious Jackson and Flaming
Lips.
Pushed into reality by Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Ferrell, Lollapalooza was
set up to promote alternative music. Also incorporated among the music
will be an element of awareness of the arts, the environment and social
causes with the MTV generation slated to be so significant that it could
influence a Presidential election. Lollapalooza solidified the unity of
strong, robust talent that promoted awareness of current issues.
