The Vols are looking to turn things around against UAB.
After a disappointing loss to Georgia, Tennessee football may have its chance to get back on track against the UAB Blazers. The Vols are undefeated against the Blazers, and this Saturday they have the chance to take their sixth win over the program.
UAB is 2-1 on the season and is set to face its first-ranked opponent of the year. The odds are heavily in favor of the Vols, but there are a few notable Blazers that could shake things up.
These are the top UAB players to look out for this Saturday.
Wide receiver Corri Milliner
In his first season as a consistent starter, wide receiver Corri Milliner has proven to be the main guy on the Blazers’ offense. Milliner leads UAB receivers in every major stat with 17 receptions, 268 yards, 15.8 yards per reception and three touchdowns. He has reached the end zone in every game of the season and has become a deep threat weapon for UAB.
Milliner has had to grind every step of the way to get to this point. He was unranked out of high school and redshirted his freshman year. He saw the field in every game his sophomore year, but after UAB’s 3-9 season ended he entered the transfer portal. Milliner ultimately decided to stay with the Blazers and has quickly become the leader of the offense at UAB. The Vols’ defense will have to neutralize Milliner downfield if they want to shut down the passing game.
Running back Jevon Jackson
After their lead rusher transferred, UAB took advantage of the portal itself and picked up Jevon Jackson. Jackson is averaging six yards a carry this season and leads the Blazers running backs with 46 attempts, 277 yards and three touchdowns. Jackson started the season off hot with a two-touchdown, 166-yard performance against Alabama State.
The journeyman played his first three seasons at Austin Peay. After an impressive 1,373-yard and 10-touchdown season in 2023, he transferred to UTEP before making his way to UAB in 2025.
Jackson faced off against the Vols last season with the UTEP Miners. The Tennessee defense held him to just 25 yards on 13 carries in what ended up being a blowout 56-0 win for the Vols. He also played against the Vols in 2023 while at Austin Peay, recording five carries for 18 yards in the 30-13 loss.
Defensive end Chris Burge
Chris Burge has made an early impact on the defensive line for the Blazers. The redshirt freshman already leads UAB in sacks with 2.5 and is third on the team in total tackles with 16.
He had the best performance of his young career in UAB’s 31-28 win over Akron. Burge posted 1.5 sacks and seven total tackles against the Zips.
The Alabama native had multiple Power Four offers but chose to stay in-state. It’s still early, but it seems that Burge could become a star player for the Blazers and is someone to watch out for in the trenches this Saturday.
