The transfer portal has played a vital role for Vol football.
Seven of Tennessee’s players this year are new additions from the portal. These include impact players such as Joey Aguilar, Colton Hood and Star Thomas.
Transferring goes both ways, though. The Vols lost 25 players to the transfer portal after last season.
Although they don’t wear the orange and white anymore, some of these players have built on their experiences at Tennessee and are prepared to give high-level performances at their new schools.
These are the outgoing Vol football transfers that are making the biggest impact for their new teams.
Wide receiver Chas Nimrod
Chas Nimrod transferred to USF for his senior season. Before sustaining a lower-leg injury in Week 8, Nimrod was quite productive for the Bulls.
His 466 receiving yards and 20.3 yards per catch still lead his team despite missing two games. He is also tied for second on the team in touchdown receptions with three.
Quarterback Nico Iamaleava
After a rocky start to his young career with UCLA, Nico Iamaleava turned it around in the Bruins’ Week 6 upset victory over Penn State. Iamaleava’s five total touchdowns were a career high. He was named the AP National Player of the Week, the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and the Maxwell Award Player of the Week for his performance.
On the year, Iamaleava has 10 passing touchdowns, 1,468 passing yards and seven interceptions. His four rushing touchdowns and 388 rushing yards are both career highs.
Wide receiver Cameron Seldon
After playing two seasons at running back for the Vols, Cameron Seldon transferred to Virginia Tech and transitioned to wide receiver. In his first season in his new role, Seldon has become one of the top options for the Hokies.
Seldon is second on the team in receptions with 21 and has tallied 143 yards and two touchdowns. He has also made an impact on special teams as a kick returner.
Defensive back Jakobe Thomas
Jakobe Thomas has made plays all across the field for Miami since his move there. In his Week 6 performance against Florida State, Thomas tallied five tackles, one forced fumble, one sack, one interception and two passes defended. This all-around performance led to Thomas being named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week and Pro Football Focus National Coverage Defender of the Week.
Thomas has 35 total tackles on the year as well as three passes defended, two sacks and two forced fumbles. He has quickly become one of the more versatile players for the Hurricanes’ defense this season.
Safety Christian Harrison
After spending his first three seasons with the Vols, Christian Harrison transferred to Cincinnati last winter. Here, he has racked up 45 tackles and an interception. His seven passes defended lead the Bearcats’ defense and are tied for fourth in the Big 12. He is also second on his team in solo tackles with 25.
