You could be the next star performer on stage live in front of millions.
No, it’s not “Star Search” or “American Idol.” It’s Dollywood’s call for new talent, and you could be the answer.
“The Dollywood entertainment team is looking for dancers, singers, technical personnel and musicians to be a part of an exciting new entertainment package for the 2003 season which includes an all-new ’50s and ’60s show, classic country and pop music,” Pete Owens, public relations coordinator, said.
Currently, the entertainers at Dollywood are heralded as some of the best in the country.
“As the entertainment capital of the Smokies, we feature some of the finest young talent in the country,” Dolly Parton said in a recent press release. “I’m proud to be able to offer these young folks a place to do what they love while at the same time providing a great entertainment package for our millions of visitors to Dollywood.”
Singers must be prepared to perform 16 bars of both a ballad and an up-tempo song for their audition. The singer also needs to take to the audition either sheet music for the accompanist or a musical track.
Those auditioning should bring appropriate clothing and shoes.
“Dancers will be taught a routine at the audition site,” Owens said.
Furthermore, dancers may also want to work on two songs, because they may be asked to sing a few measures.
“Because all the traditional shows have dancing and singing, it would be nice if the person auditioning would be at least familiar with both,” Owens said. “Provided the person is someone that we are interested in, we would be willing to help them with their singing or dancing.”
For aspiring musicians, experience is necessary; they also should know how to “double” and read music, Owens said.
At the audition, they will be asked to play a one-to-two-minute selection to display their skills.
Performers looking to put a foot in the door might want to consider this opportunity.
“Many of our performers have been able to move on,” Owens said. “Susie Boggis is probably our most notable one … As a performer at Dollywood, you are exposed to millions of people daily; so, it’s definitely an opportunity for one to polish their craft.”
Auditions will be held on Jan. 18, 19 and 25 at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. For more information, visit www.dollywood.com.
