Hard to please decorators have another option to find what is needed to make a space unique.

If the UC poster sale didn’t suit you, the Knoxville Museum of Art may have something to fill the emptiness. Today KMA is holding its annual Off the Wall Art Sale from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

“We have a little bit of everything,” said Margo Carpenter, KMA membership manager. “The items for sale are not the museum’s art but what others have donated. It’s basically like a new and used art rummage sale.”

Off the Wall will feature both new items and seldom seen works of art. Pieces such as abstract paintings, wooden sculptures, frames and posters have already been donated for tonight’s sale.

“We are featuring everything from framed mirrors to chairs that would be great for a college dorm,” Carpenter said. “As we always say, if you’re tired of your look, donate to us.

“Some people will bring back what they’ve bought from a previous year, because they’re ready for something new,” she added. “It’s a great place to spend an hour and pick up new art.”

KMA knows that money is always a factor for college students and has thus priced everything to fit nicely into anyone’s budget. Prices range from $1 to $100 with most framed art selling for $20.

“Off the Wall is great for students, because it’s at rummage sale prices,” Carpenter said. “The idea is to move the art, because we don’t have a place to store it.”

Since Off the Wall is a free event, attendees will be able to look at KMA’s current exhibits for free.

“The art sale sounds like a good idea to go do something outside of the norm,” said Amanda Beam, a senior in history. “Even if you don’t buy anything, students can still get ideas and look at the galleries for free. It’s a win-win situation.”

KMA is located in the downtown area at the World’s Fair Park. Free parking and food will be available.
