Already bored with the daily routine after only a couple of days?
Have no fear. The University Center is sponsoring a day full of free entertainment.
First Friday will kick off with a third floor open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Get In the Mix” boasts free Chex Mix and drinks as well as plenty of opportunities to get involved on campus. Organizations located on the UC’s third floor include TeamVols, SGA and Leadership Development.
“We’ll be answering questions and getting info out,” said Amy Ibach, graduate assistant for leadership development. “If people want to sign up for organizations, they can, but it’s more of a chance to see what the third floor has to offer.”
For many students, the UC’s third floor is a place to socialize.
“We want people to utilize the space,” Ibach said. “Technically, it’s an office suite, but there are computers for students to use. Students also hold informal meetings here.”
If classes are taking up the day, visit the UC at 7 p.m. for free popcorn, hot dogs and hamburgers. Late night activities at the UC include a showing of “Old School,” free bowling, ping pong, pool, laser tag and golf.
“This is a fun alternative for students to have on their Friday night,” said Ron Laffitte, director of student activities. “We’re going to have cosmic golf, which is putt-putt in the dark. There is also going to be laser tag outside in front of the UC in an inflatable center.”
Friday night’s entertainment will be topped off with live music from a solo guitarist.
First Friday began last year as a part of late night programming and may continue with success tonight.
“We started First Friday last year,” Laffitte said. “We want to continue to do late night events with other student groups.”
