UT’s best kept secret for offering services to students seems to be Hodges
Library. Hodges Library is centrally located on campus, so students who
live on campus will always be in walking distance to the facility. From the
new UT Book and Supply Store to the Evening School offering programs to
help students, the library has something for everyone.
The library has a 24-hour study room located on the second floor, adjacent
to the bookstore. This location is great, since the only room in the
library where food and drink are allowed is the 24-hour study room. On the
upper level floors, there are study rooms available also, in addition to
graduate carrels for studying and doing research. On the bottom floor of
the library is a computer lab. So, if the computers are not available in
your residence hall, or you live off campus and do not have a computer, you
can get that paper typed on one of the computers in the library computer
lab. If you have free time, after you have finished your homework, you can
view a movie in the audiovisual center on the second floor. The audiovisual
center is overflowing with movies to watch on a variety of topics. All you
need is your student identification card and some time.
Besides the features listed above, the library has a duplication center
located on the first floor. Many students do not know the duplication
center exists, you can tell by the interminable lines at the copy machines
in the reserve room. If the lines are long, go to the duplication center;
more than likely, there will be a vacant copier.
The library’s auditorium is a great place for student organizations to have
a program. Located on the first floor, next to the duplication center, the
auditorium has proven to be an excellent setting for lectures and
debates.
Stacked with six floors, the Hodges Library can offer something for every
student. Whether it is a book, a candy bar or a computer, the library has
it.
