Math, dessert and pizza lovers rejoice, Pi day has arrived! Whether you are a big fan of the seemingly endless number or simply love eating a good pie, this day is tailor-made for you. Here are just a few ways that you can celebrate on or around campus.
The Office of Undergraduate Research’s Pi Day Celebration
From noon to 2 p.m. on Ped Walkway, The Office of Undergraduate Research is celebrating Pi day in a number of ways.
Math experts can try and list as many digits of the number Pi as possible. Those that like eating pie more than trying to memorize large strings of numbers can participate in a pie eating competition to try and prove once and for all that you love pie the most. If you aren’t particularly passionate about math or pie, then that’s fine too, as you can simply get a piece of pie to eat on your way to class.
Pi(e) Your Professor
Ever want to throw a pie in your professor’s face? Well, if you are an engineering student, today is your lucky day. Engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi is hosting “Pi(e) Your Professor” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Engineering Quad near Ferris Hall. For $2 you can throw a whipped cream pie in the face of a number of engineering professors.
Even if you aren’t an engineering major and don’t know any of the professors there, it still might feel good to chuck a pie at someone, regardless of who they are. If you are in the area and you would rather eat than throw a pie at a professor, they will also have pie on sale for $2 a slice and Stefano’s Pizza for $3 a slice. Better yet, all of the proceeds from the event will be going to the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Sanders.
Get a Pizza Pie
Pizza is one of the most popular foods, especially for college students. Most people completely forget that pizza is another version of pie, hence “pizza pie.” There are multiple places on campus where one can get their hands on a pizza pie.
PCB is a great place to go if you’re looking for a chill place to hang out and eat some pizza. If you’re looking for somewhere else on the meal plan that has pizza, then there’s also the Fresh Food Company in Stokely, and if you’re willing to walk a little further, Stefano’s, Brenz, Oscar’s and Mellow Mushroom are all great places to get pizza on the Strip.
Get a $1 Pie from Walmart
Ever have a craving for a pie but don’t want to buy an entire pie just to eat one slice, or better yet, ever have a craving for different kinds of pie at the same time? Well, Walmart offers the perfect snack solution with its mini 4 oz pies! These pies are just big enough to make for a tasty snack, but not so big that you have a lot of pie left over.
With flavors like blueberry, peach, cherry, apple, pecan and more, you can enjoy Pi Day with a number of flavors without breaking the bank. Plus, you can take one more trip down to the University Commons Walmart before it closes.
