The Orthodox Christian Fellowship is an organization for Greek Orthodox students at UT. The organization is lead by Father Michael Platanis and Mrs. Winkie Ilic.
Platanis said that the Orthodox Christian faith is based upon the idea that Jesus Christ established one church. The Greek Orthodox Church, according to their history, has remained as Christ established it.
“We use the original Greek text of the Bible. The Old Testament is called Septuagint and the New Testament is called Codex Sinaiticusk,” Platanis said. He is also a priest at St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
The group meets every Thursday for lunch at Smokey’s Palace in the University Center. Platanis also keeps office hours at the Presbyterian Center Monday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
“We meet as well at the St. George Parish home (behind the church) on the last Sunday of every month for fellowship and a meal,” Platanis said.
St. George Greek Orthodox Church is located at 4070 Kingston Pike. Church services include a Wednesday night prayer service and adult catechism, beginning at 6 p.m. Platanis said it is a “covered dish” event.
Saturday evening, vespers are held at 5. Matins begin Sunday morning at 8:45 with Divine Liturgy at 10.
Further questions and information requests about upcoming events can be directed to Ilic at 974-6110, or to Platanis at the Presbyterian Center.
